It’s mad to think it’s been 11 years since the last Doves single, but if anything, besides being a cracking tune, Carousels proves that Andy, Jez and Jimi haven’t missed a step.
Carousels has that core Doves sound many know and love, but it also comes with psychedelic ribbons sewn into its musical fabric. Stuttering, skipping drum patterns, guitar tones that are somewhat reminiscent of a steel drums, buzzing synth lines and a finely executed crescendo see Doves return with a desire to expand on what they’ve previously built.
I’m really digging the track as a whole, along with the trippy manipulation of architecture in the video.
Hopefully, there is more to come. Hopefully, there is a new album on the way. But for now, this is more than enough.
Welcome back boys.
