As IDLES third full length album 'Ultra Mono' edges ever closer, the band have released another cracking single in the form of Model Village.
As if this wasn’t reason enough to be excited, the video for Model Village comes courtesy of Michel Gondry. Yes, that Michel Gondry.
You know, director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless, The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind.
Yeah, he did make that Green Hornet movie too but the less we talk about that better.
Gondry is of course no stranger to music videos. He’s made some fantastic visual counterparts for the likes of Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Kylie and of course, most notably, The White Stripes.
Although it’s been far too long since his last full length feature (2015’s ‘Microbe & Gasoline’) it is great to see him tackle this format again. The results as I’m sure you’ll agree are pretty great. Teaming up with IDLES is one of the best combinations since peanut butter and strawberry jam. The promo for Model Village is certainly a colourful, trippy experience but it also highlights the bands, pointed, no nonsense lyrics. I’d love to see the band work with Michel Gondry on future projects, but for now, I’m off to watch this a number of times as I eagerly await the release of Ultra Mono.
Which, by the way is due out on September 25th. But you already knew that right?
